The Duchess of Rothesay visits the University of Aberdeen

The Duchess of Rothesay, as The Duchess of Cornwall is known when in Scotland, visited the University of Aberdeen today and officially opened the new Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health.

The modern building is located on the Foresterhill campus, and houses a number of specialist laboratory environments. The Duchess, who has been Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen since 2013, toured the new facility and visited the kitchen where food is prepared for nutrition research.

Her Royal Highness wore a white lab coat during the tour, meeting staff and students who are conducting research studies at the new facility. Before leaving, The Duchess unveiled a plaque marking the official opening of the new centre.

Following the tour of the Rowett Institute, The Duchess of Rothesay attended a reception in support of charities The National Osteoporosis Society and Arthritis Research UK.

Her Royal Highness was shown the Mobile Bone Density Scanner, which is used to help detect osteoporosis in patients who live in rural areas. The Duchess has been President of The National Osteoporosis Society since 2001, and Patron of Arthritis Research UK since 2012.

The Duchess also enjoyed a performance by the Aberdeen University Chamber Choir during the visit.
